MuNiMulA is a design/manufacturing firm with an ever expanding line of objects and outdoor furniture made of aluminum. Their designs are the product of a subjective understanding of beauty and need. The amalgam of strict industrial production and handcrafted manipulation, regulated by the particulars of materials and function.
MuNiMulA strives to maintain a careful balance between truth and capriciousness, guided by discipline and experience. MuNiMulA relies on extrusions for its line of products. The process of fabrication beings with the design and fabrication of a custom die which matches their design specifications.
Aluminum comprises roughly 1/12 of the earths crust, but is never found as an elemental material.
Bauxite ore is mined and chemically refined into alumina, which is a white powdery material that can then be electrically separated into molten aluminum ingot and carbon dioxide. Four pounds of basset are required to produce each pound of aluminum.
Recycling saves 95% of the energy needed to produce aluminum from bauxite ore, and currently between 85 and 90% of aluminum is recycled.
Billet is forced through these dies at an extrusion plant as described above. The billet they use contains 60% scrap aluminum, with 55% being post industrial scrap and 5% post consumer materials.
From there fabrication takes place at their facility, cutting, machining, drilling, and welding to achieve a finished product. Both MIG and TIG welding process are used depending on the application. Once the product is completed it is ready to be finished.
MuNiMulA finishes all of their products by anodizing. This insures a durable protective finish that does not compromise the nature and feel of the metal.
